Otaru Canal

Otaru canal is about 1.1 km long canal located in the city of Otaru, a port city on Hokkaido, lies northwest of Sapporo on Ishikari Bay. There are multiple trains per hour between Sapporo and Otaru along the JR Hakodate main line. One-way trip costs 640 yen and takes about 30 minutes by rapid train or 45 minutes by local train. Most of Otaru‘s attractions are located less than a 30 minute walk from Otaru Station, making the city convenient to explore by foot. At present these brick warehouses are reused as restaurants and workshops. Otaru Canal has its own nostalgic atmosphere even during the daytime. When gas lamps light up the canal at dusk, you can enjoy a romantic view.

One thing for sure it is freezing cold in Otaru during winter. Happy traveling!
